Members of Bio-Tech Consulting’s Coastal and Marine Sciences division were recently in Guam to conduct coral surveys for a project aimed at improving connectivity across the Pacific. For this project, the company’s scientific dive team conducted pre-project coral surveys and reconnaissance for any anthropogenic (manmade) debris.
A key part of the project was the identification of adjacent hardbottom recipient sites for coral relocation and mitigation efforts. The team’s coral relocation activities utilized coral-safe materials and industry best management practices to ensure the safety and success of the process. The project also involved stabilization and enhancement efforts for coral cover and the removal of any anthropogenic debris found within the site area.
After the coral surveys and translocation efforts, the Coastal and Marine Sciences team will perform follow-up coral surveys of the site over the next several months. They will also provide coral health monitoring and reporting to ensure the corals’ well-being.
